Dr JJ Khong is a general ophthalmologist and an experienced sub-specialist in treating oculoplastic diseases of the orbit, eyelid and lacrimal system. She specializes in oculoplastic surgery and is renowned for thyroid eye disease treatment and research.
Dr Khong graduated from the University of Melbourne, where she completed her medical training and PhD degree. She was awarded Proxime Accessit Prize in Surgery and Australian Postgraduate Award for her academic distinction. Following Ophthalmology training in Adelaide, she then completed an oculoplastic fellowship at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne and an orbital fellowship at the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam. She is dual qualified as Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO) and Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Ophthalmic Plastic Surgeons (FANZSOPS).
At Mont Albert Eye Specialists, Dr JJ Khong offers treatment for general eye conditions, eyelid disorders including drooping of the eyelids, inwards and outwards turning of the eyelids, periocular skin lesions, disorders of the eye socket such as thyroid eye disease, tear duct blockage and Botox treatment for blepharospasm and hemi-facial spasm. She provides the highest professional care for her patients in a relatable and emphatic manner.
Dr Khong is a senior consultant ophthalmologist at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, the Royal Melbourne Hospital and the Austin Hospital. As a clinician scientist, she leads the oculoplastic and thyroid eye disease research program at Centre for Eye Research Australia. She maintains a strong academic interest and published widely in peer reviewed scientific journals. She often chairs symposium sessions and is invited as keynote and invited speakers at scientific conferences in Australia and internationally. She is involved in teaching, as a clinical supervisor for oculoplastic fellows, vocational ophthalmology trainees, residents and medical students through her commitment at the public hospitals and the University of Melbourne.
In addition to her clinical expertise, Dr Khong is multilingual where she is fluent in Mandarin and can understand Cantonese, Teochew, Hokkien dialects and Malay. In her free time, JJ likes experimental cooking, gardening, going to the gym and playing the piano.
